01
Goal
While working on the in-game UI redesign for World of Warships Blitz, I also took on a side task – to design the game’s official website from scratch. At that point, there was no dedicated landing site for the title. My goal was to translate the game’s visual vision and atmosphere into a web experience that could both set the tone for the brand and serve as a strong entry point for new players.
02
Approach
Because I was already deeply involved in defining the game’s interface and overall art direction, I had a clear sense of its tone – bold, cinematic, and anchored in realism. I wanted the website to feel like a natural extension of the game world, not just a marketing asset.
The concept revolved around three principles:
Consistency with in-game experience – adopting the same visual cues, typography, and palette used in the UI.
Atmospheric storytelling – using full-screen visuals, cinematic lighting, and motion to recreate the sense of scale and immersion from battle scenes.
Clarity and conversion – structuring the content around simple player goals: discover, learn, download, and play.
03
Warships and nations
The heart of World of Warships Blitz lies in its diversity – over a hundred ships from different nations, each with unique traits and playstyles. I wanted this richness to be visible the moment players landed on the site.
Each nation — US, Japan, UK, Germany, USSR, Pan-Asia, France — received its own visual presence, with authentic color accents, emblems, and representative vessels showcased in context.
The page structure allowed players to:
– Explore ship types (destroyers, cruisers, battleships, carriers) with high-impact imagery and short gameplay highlights.
– Compare national tech trees and ship strengths at a glance.
– Discover the “legends” of each fleet – iconic warships rendered in cinematic detail, connecting visual storytelling to the game’s tactical depth.
This section became a focal point of the site: part encyclopedia, part visual showcase, and a subtle invitation to pick a nation and join the fight.
05
The outcome
The website quickly became a key communication channel for WoWS Blitz.
It provided a unified visual and narrative bridge between marketing and in-game experience, helping position the title as a fully realized, self-contained world within the Wargaming portfolio.
The “Ships & Nations” section later served as the foundation for live-ops updates and promotional events, giving the marketing team a flexible yet cohesive storytelling platform that could grow with the game.
